Our school has been on a remarkable journey over the past few years. Working together, we have overhauled our curriculum, increased fantastic learning opportunities and put in place effective systems to raise expectations and improve pupil outcomes. We are grateful for your support, and we are excited about the future as we continue to build upon these achievements.
Part of the next step is the consideration of becoming an academy. Our governors have been considering this issue carefully over many months and we are now convinced that it is the right time to take this next step on our journey. We propose to convert to an academy and join the Symphony Learning Trust.
In considering this important decision, it is crucial to understand education in Leicestershire over the past decade. There is a lessening provision of support available to us from the local authority as more and more local schools have chosen to convert to academy status. We believe that we are stronger when we collaborate and work together with peer organisations. Multi academy trusts, such as Symphony Learning Trust, offer a bridge to connect with a broader community of schools, educators, and educational experts. This connection is designed to improve pupil outcomes through collaboration, the exchange of best practices, and professional development opportunities for our dedicated teachers—a privilege that has become increasingly rare for local authority-maintained schools in Leicestershire.
Every trust is different and over the last few months we have met with representatives from many. Symphony offers the best fit for us; we have shared values and principles. I want to assure you that joining Symphony will not compromise our autonomy, curriculum, or ethos—elements that are of utmost importance to us. We will retain our unique identity, vision, values, uniform, name, and established methods while benefiting from the support of the multi academy trust. This partnership will support us to engage in long-term planning and strategic development, securing a sustainable future for our fantastic school.
Our partnership with Symphony Learning Trust will enable us to share resources and streamline administrative functions, resulting in cost savings. These savings can be reinvested into the teaching and learning experiences we offer our children.
Crucially, joining Symphony Learning Trust will strengthen our leadership, ensuring a steadfast commitment to school improvement. In times of challenge, we can draw upon the expertise and resources within the trust, supporting our students and improving their outcomes.
It is essential to acknowledge that the decision to join any multi academy trust is not without its challenges and considerations. That is precisely why we would like to invite you to take part in a consultation process—to ensure that all stakeholders, including parents, pupils, staff, and the wider community have the opportunity to assess the terms of this partnership before making a decision.
Please take the time to explore this website where you will find more information about Symphony Learning Trust. You can give feedback through the website by clicking on the “have your say” button. We will also be holding a face-to-face consultation event at Thythorn at 6pm on Monday 18th November.
We really appreciate your support and thoughtful consideration of this matter.
